Dear GSAS students,
I was in the midst of drafting a message to you about planning for the fall when I received the shocking announcement from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) curtailing the access to remote instruction that had been afforded to international students for the spring and summer.
All current international students in GSAS will have received the advice on this matter that was sent out on July 7 by the Office of Global Services (OGS), and the Graduate School is actively consulting with OGS and other relevant NYU offices to clarify the import of the new government directive. GSAS has also been compiling the numerous queries about the policy that we have received from students and faculty members alike, and on July 9 we will systematically review those questions in order to craft an informational memo that answers as many of them as possible. I hope to send that memo to all GSAS students by the end of the week.
In the meantime, it cannot be emphasized enough that this development is of vital importance to every member of the GSAS community. We in the Graduate School are giving it the urgent attention it warrants, and are determined to ensure that all of our students are able to pursue their studies uninterrupted in fall 2020 and beyond.
Sincerely,
Phil Harper
