The Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) Doctoral Convocation is Monday, May 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Beacon Theatre, located at 2124 Broadway between West 74th and 75th Street.
All graduates are required to arrive at 10:00 a.m. at the Theatre's side entrance on Amsterdam Avenue and West 75th Street. Students must arrive by 10:45 a.m. in order to participate in the ceremony.
Guests should enter through the Theatre's main entrance on Broadway. At 10:00 a.m., the house doors open for guests. Guests must be in their seats by 10:45 a.m.
The ceremony starts at 11:00 a.m. with a procession of the platform party (composed of deans, faculty, and honored students) into the house. The program begins with a welcome from the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Science, and a representative of the Provost's Office. The opening remarks are followed by the presentation of student awards. The first half of the program closes with remarks from our Distinguished Faculty Speaker, Professor Joan Breton Connelly.
During the second half of the ceremony, each graduate is recognized by full name and department/program. Graduates will be hooded by a faculty member on the platform party, and each student will be personally congratulated by Dean Phillip Brian Harper.
The ceremony ends at approximately 1:00 p.m. when Dean Harper gives his closing congratulations and the graduates are asked to stand and be recognized as a class one final time. The recessional immediately follows.
