Applications and all supporting materials must be submitted online by 5PM Eastern Time. If a listed deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or U.S. federal holiday, then the next business day will be the actual deadline.

Requirements
In addition to the general application requirements, the department specifically requires:
GRE
- Please do not send GRE test scores — they will not be reviewed by our Admissions Committee.
TOEFL/IELTS
Applicants must submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores (TOEFL preferred) unless they:
Are a native English speaker; OR
Are a US citizen or permanent resident; OR
Have completed (or will complete) a baccalaureate or master's degree at an institution where the language of instruction is English.
Prepare a narrative that integrates your past and present work as it relates to your intended field/s of study, your intellectual objectives, and your long-term goals. We encourage you to include ideas for a potential master's project. In particular, we ask that you indicate how and why your work/research would best be facilitated by XE: Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement, and the broader Graduate School of Arts and Science at NYU. The statement should not exceed two double-spaced pages.
Include a strong example of your academic writing that reflects your area(s) of interest. It should make a clear argument and demonstrate your capacity for interdisciplinary writing and research. It must be double-spaced and not exceed 20 pages, including all images, notes, and bibliography. You are welcome to submit additional work (creative/professional) in another medium in addition to the writing sample. You will find more specific instructions in the application.
