This page provides instructions for students who wish to take course(s) in the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) as a non-degree student during summer session 2023. If you are looking to take summer session courses in a different school at NYU, please consult their web pages. You may find information about other schools on the New York University website.
Current Students at NYU
If you are currently an enrolled student in any school at NYU, then you do not need to apply for admission in GSAS for the summer session. Please contact the department that offers the course(s) you wish to take for permission to register for a course. You can find email addresses for all of our departments and programs through our Departments and Programs page.
Students from Other Schools
If you are currently an enrolled student in a different institution, then you will need to apply for admission as a non-degree student for the summer session. The nonrefundable application fee is $110. If you wish to take courses in Computer Science, Math, or Math in Finance, please follow the specific instructions below. For any other departments or programs, please see the section labeled Applicants to All Other Programs.
Computer Science
- The application deadline is May 1. Late applications may be accepted if space remains.
- U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or current H1-B visa holders must use the GSAS online application.
- Applicants who are not U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or current H1-B visa holders must consult with Graduate Enrollment Services to see if their academic plans will be viable given their visa circumstances. If so, you will be sent special instructions for applying. Please write gsas.admissions@nyu.edu, and indicate the department in which you wish to apply for summer session study, the course(s) you wish to take, and indicate the type of visa you will have.

The TOEFL/IELTS is optional. The GRE general test is recommended but not required. Letters of recommendation and a résumé are optional. Please leave items blank on the application if you do not provide them. The statement of academic purpose should explain why you want to attend the program as a non-degree student and describe the courses you plan on taking.
