Based on feedback from the Student Senators Council and the graduate student population-at-large, the University is pleased to announce the enhancement of maternity benefits under the NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance Basic, Comprehensive and GSHIP Plans, effective immediately.

With the collaboration of the NYU Medical Center-Tisch Hospital and several obstetricians in the community, routine maternity care through certain "designated care providers" will be covered 100%. In particular, these plans will cover 100% of the negotiated charges for:

-routine obstetric care including prenatal visits, delivery and postpartum care for both vaginal delivery (CPT Code 59400) and cesarean delivery (CPTCode 59510)

-inpatient hospitalization for delivery. In most cases where there is normal vaginal or cesarean delivery, this benefit should result in either no or a significantly lower out-of-pocket cost for students as compared with the usual benefit.

To take advantage of this new benefit, treatment must be provided by a "designated care provider." This program does not apply to any other Aetna/Chickering in-network providers. For a list of designated care providers or questions, please call NYU Student Health Insurances at (212) 443-1020 or visit online at www.nyu.edu/health/insurance.

(Please note that any additional medically necessary care beyond routine maternity care and delivery will be covered at 80% of negotiated charges for Aetna-preferred providers and 50% of reasonable charges for Aetna-non-preferred providers.)
