The Transnationalism, International migration, Race, Ethnocentrism and the State (TIRES) consortium, representing eight US and European universities has received a three-year grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education (FIPSE/U.S. Department of Education) for a program which intends to promote collaborative teaching and research on issues related to "Transnationalism, International migration, Race, Ethnocentrism and the State" (TIRES).

The consortium's focus is on training students to understand the dynamics of state policies' on refugees and immigrants, especially with regard to how these are evolving under the impact of increasing transnational integration and popular reactions against expanded immigration. These reactions have sometimes taken the form of extreme xenophobic or nativist social movements.

We are able to offer both graduate and undergraduate students at NYU interested in the above program themes the opportunity to study for a semester or a full year at one of the following four European universities:
Europa-Universitat Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) - Germany
Universite de Liege - Belgium
Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris - France
Universiteit van Amsterdam - Netherlands

In addition, for those who qualify, we are able to offer a $3000 mobility grant which covers travel expenses and a $1500 language learning stipend (where necessary).

Please note that students can participate even if they do not study at the Center for European Studies and that while abroad, students will have the academic and personal guidance of both their advisor at NYU and a new advisor assigned to them at their host institution.

The Comparative Federalism Consortium (COMFED) representing six US and European universities has received a three-year grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education (FIPSE/U.S. Department of Education) for a program which intends to promote collaborative teaching and research on issues related to the comparison of the United States and European Union as political, economic and legal systems. The underlying objectives of the project are to enhance scientific knowledge of the field of comparative EU-US studies, to educate a new generation of future academic and policy leaders in both the United States and the EU about the similarities and differences between the two systems, and to promote better understanding between the two sides.

This program will allow students from each institution to spend a semester at a transatlantic COMFED institution, where they will have the opportunity to follow the comparative syllabus and to choose from a wide range of other graduate courses and internships relevant to their field of study. The project will also involve an annual student summer institute, a staff and student conference (held contiguously), as well as the exchange of both faculty members and policy-makers across the Atlantic.

We are able to offer both GSAS and CAS students at NYU interested in the above program themes the opportunity to study for one semester or a full year at one of the following four European universities:
University of Birmingham, United Kingdom
Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques, France
Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium
