MacCracken Support for Doctoral StudentsPrinter Friendly Printer Friendly
The MacCracken Program provides a multi-year support commitment to most new doctoral students in the Graduate School of Arts and Science*. The MacCracken Program for 2006-07 includes the following award components:

  • Four- or five-year package of full support
  • A minimum academic-year stipend of $20,000 (the stipend amount is higher in some departments; some departments offer summer support, as well)
  • Tuition for courses that meet the degree requirements (normally 72 points)
  • Registration and services fees
  • Premiums for NYU student health insurance under the comprehensive insurance plan for an individual student
  • One-time $1,000 fellowship grant for start-up research and educational expenses during the first year of doctoral study
  • Two semesters of maintenance of matriculation registration waivers following the four- or five-year MacCracken award term, including payment of registration and services fees and premiums for NYU student health insurance under the comprehensive plan
The University has an "evergreen" policy that assures that we will annually announce the minimum stipends for the next three years, none lower than those previously announced. For 2007-08, there will be a $1,000 increase in the base stipend, taking the minimum academic-year stipend to a total of $21,000. The stipend for 2008-09 will be announced later this spring.

*Doctoral students in the following programs are not funded through the Graduate School's MacCracken Program and should directly contact their program of study to learn about the terms of their funding--Basic Medical Sciences at the Sackler Institute, Biomedical Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine of NYU, Cinema Studies and Performance Studies in the Tisch School of the Arts, Environmental Health Sciences and the Institute of Fine Arts.
