GRE and TOEFL Scores

Graduate Enrollment Services (GES) records official test scores sent directly from the GRE and TOEFL programs. If SMTS does not list a test date for a test you have sent to GES, then the scores in question have not yet been recorded by GES. Please note that there is a delay from the time your scores are received by GES to the time that you will see them on SMTS.

What should you do if you don't see your test scores?

  1. Please confirm that you sent your test scores to institution code 2596. (See #2 below concerning department codes and TOEFL.) If you requested that scores be sent to institution code 2596 (and a department code other than 00 in the case of the TOEFL), we will get your test scores and you do not need to be concerned.

  2. If you have not already sent your test scores to code 2596, then you must do so. You should immediately contact the GRE or TOEFL program and arrange for them to send your test scores to institution code 2596.

TOEFL requires you to list a department code as well as an institution code. You should select the department code that is closest to your area of interest, or use 99. DO NOT USE 00 (DOUBLE ZERO), AND DO NOT LEAVE IT BLANK--WE WILL NOT GET YOUR SCORES.

A department code is not required when sending GRE scores.

  3. Please be aware that it can take some time for us to record your test scores, especially during November, December, and January. Some applicants request that scores be sent to us at the time they take the test; others request it sometime after the test is taken. If the date you took the test was after the date listed on SMTS, we have not yet recorded it. Keep checking SMTS regularly. We update our system frequently and will have your scores recorded in time for consideration by the admissions committee.

  4. If you sent your scores to GES before the date listed on SMTS, but they are not on SMTS, please use the GRE/TOEFL Score Check Page.
Please do not email GES if we have not yet reached your test date.
