Admission and Fellowships: A general knowledge of ancienthistory and literature and reasonable competence in reading both Greek andLatin prose and poetry are required, as indicated by the successful completionof an undergraduate major in classics or its equivalent. Students may apply forthe M.A. program only, without fellowship. Students may also apply directly tothe Ph.D. program, in which case the M.A. degree is awarded after the studentcompletes the requirements for the M.A. while working toward the Ph.D.; if astudent enters the Ph.D. program with an M.A., a blanket credit of 32 points isawarded. All full-time students admitted to the Ph.D. program receive fundingthrough the Henry M. MacCracken program.
